Wish Tree at NAMM with John Lennon Educational Tour Bus

Written by Jaime Walden

Yoko kicked off John Lennon’s 70th birthday celebration year at the 2010 NAMM Show.

Her appearance at the show inspired attendees to submit their wishes of hope and peace at a special Wish Tree set up in front of the Bus during the convention from January 14-17, 2010.

Hundreds of wishes were collected and will be installed around the Imagine Peace Tower in Reykjavik, Iceland.

Yoko was at NAMM to continue showing her support of the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus, and announced she is dedicating 2010 to promoting and supporting the Bus and music education in honor of John.

On January 14th Yoko, Quincy Jones and Jackson Browne hosted a press conference in support of music education on behalf of American youth along with students from South Central Los Angeles’ Fernando Pullum Performing Arts School, who performed a medley of Lennon songs, kicking off with “Imagine,” with Rickey Minor, the musical director of American Idol and Fishbone.

The Bus also hosted several live performances at NAMM, including one by the John Lennon Songwriting Contest Winner of 2009, Matt Cusson, as well as hosting the first annual SchoolJam USA competition presented by NAMM.

Winning band After Math competed against nine other top teen bands at the Anaheim Convention Center and received the first place award—a trophy in the shape of a platinum album—and the grand prize trip to Europe next March to perform at the international 2010 SchoolJam finals in Frankfurt, Germany.

In addition, the band received $5,000 for their school music programs and prizes from the Lennon Bus and its sponsors.
