The Wheels on the Bus

Written by The Lennon Bus

I have survived my first week on the J.L.E.T.B… even though Jeff thought I would only be able to handle 2 days.  Macworld was tight, Stanford rocked, and today we gave tours to the good people at the Apple Headquarters.  Right now we are driving from Cupertino to Orange County for the start of NAMM.  I love my new bunk, it has got a window, and I can’t explain what it feels like to wake up in the morning and the first thing I see is America whizzing by.  I met some amazing people already, most notably the members of Liyana, who have inspired me in ways that I have never been inspired before, but I will talk about them and that more at a later time.  I bought new shoes, they are silver and green.  I have discovered my appreciation of coffee.  Quick props before I go….. Seamus and Tyler for showing me the ropes, D-Lar for the laughs, Jaime for the positive reinforcement emails, and Rob and Jeff for their…. well, ummm, seniority?  Most of all, BIG props to Brian and Tony for giving me their respect, this chance, and most of all mentoring me in every way possible while I am aboard this amazing journey… Ok. Good Talk. Erik

Where’s the MINNIE bar?

Written by Jaime Walden

After my turbulent six hour flight from New York, all that I could dream for was heading to the happiest place on earth.  However, upon checking in, Rob and I were both greeted by an unexpected familiar stranger…Slick Mick. At first, we were ecstatic to meet the Mr. Mouse himself: But, Mickey then took a turn for the worst during our brief respite… He startled Rob! Ordered room service! Rob and I finally had enough.  Just before Mickey could scurry out the door, we snapped a quick photo of the ninja mouse being BUSTED!!! On Mama’s Jukebox: anything but “It’s a Small World” x mama

Blog Numero Uno

Written by The Lennon Bus

ok, so I have been slacking. I’ll admit that. I was a little bird in the b-childs ear last year trying to get a blog going and now here I am playing catch up like my screen name is Heinz 57. To be perfectly honest I was just nervous. They say once you get the first one out there it just gets easier and easier, but then again, I don’t know who “they” are. I assume “they” are probably Jeff, his glass is always half full (at least that’s what they say). Anyways, last year was a doozie to say the least. It was one of the most eventful years of my life. I graduated from college, I got a job on the lennon bus, my sister had a baby, my dad almost died (but then he decided not to), my other sister was gonna get married (but then she decided not to), my other sister decided to be diagnosed with celiac whereas I opted for some diabetes, my mom kept it real and Obama got in office (Thank You Jesus) all the while my beautiful lady friend maintained some patience (Thank You Jesus). Reflecting on all of those silly shenanigans and forging right into the future I find myself here today in 2009. Today is a great day seeing that tomorrow is always the busiest. People are always planning things for tomorrow so I try to avoid that. Early bird gets the worm and the apple doesn’t fall to far …

airplane!

Written by Jaime Walden

Right now I am at JFK on my way to LAX.  I’m trying to calm my flying nerves with some hot chocolate, but the two year old girl who parked right next to me keeps vying for it.  She doesn’t think I notice her true identity: baby ninja.  Six hour flight time—see everyone at NAMM!  Peace! Side note: Baby ninja’s mom told me she loves cell phones too.  Hasn’t she seen Airplane!?  NO HIJACKING!!! On Mama’s Jukebox: Ambulance LTD - “New English” x mama

Round 10…ding, ding

Written by The Lennon Bus

First of all, everyone knows me as Tony but I don’t know how to change that so I’ll leave it to the powers that be.  Yes, this is my 10th year as the driver of the Lennon Bus and it has been the most amazing job I have ever had.  It’s really much more than a job….it is my life.  If you don’t believe that, just ask my wife.  We’re taking steps so that I can be home more in the future so that’s a good thing.  The off season has been anything but that.  Other than spending a week in Jamaica with my wonderful wife, there were only 4 days that I wasn’t at the bus from November 4th until it left for MAC World on the 26th of December.  It’s a labor of love though and I’m excited about all of the amazing updates/upgrades that we made.  This bus is one of a kind and we are all so proud of not only it’s capabilities, but it’s mission as well.  Now if we could only get the wrap right (inside joke..or not).   I really would like to use this first blog to thank some people that are very special to me in the job that I do.  First of all, to the bus staff, both past and present.  What an amazing bunch of people.  These guys work tirelessly and wear so many different hats.  Educators, spokespeople, musicians, engineers, and just all around good guys.  So from years …

Big Mac World

Written by The Lennon Bus

Doug checking in from Palo Alto, CA, in the parking lot of a hotel.  I thought I would steal ideas from Jaime and list some of my most memorable memories that I remember from Macworld 2009, and that sentence was definitely not redundant. -Flying from Cleveland to San Francisco and not being stuck at my layover for the first time in over 2 months. -Standing at bag terminal 9 in the domestic flight terminal while Jeff guarantees me via iPhone he is standing right in front of me (he was in the international terminal). -Working on the student/Liyana project, and then watching the Liyana concert (awesome vocal arrangements!) -Shooting my second vlog (which will be released TBD) -Watching Erik completely wipe out our rope and stanchion while running to fix a feedback problem (the rope was maximum one foot of the ground and he tried to jump over it). -Rocking “Eye of the Tiger” vocals in three different octaves in “Rockband 2” (take that Survivor). peace, D Lar

MacAttack

Written by Jaime Walden

I make lists for everything.  So, for my first post here is a list of my Macworld highlights: 1.  Landing in San Francisco (note: I am better on the ground.) 2.  At the hotel, Jeff sitting in a a very large puddle in a 1980s pop-culture chair. 3.  After a long set-up day at the Moscone, going to Ann’s new place (from Apple,) where she made a special gluten-free lasagna for me! 4.  Seeing Liyana’s reaction to the Bus.  5.  Talking with Tapiwa from Liyana about Walker Texas Ranger. 6.  I am obsessed with our newly installed Litepanels.  I would have also frozen in the Moscone without them! 7.  Meeting so many wonderful new people (SFSA students, Julia Chigamba, Towela), and watching them create a song and music video in two days! 8.  After so much hard work, having a successful and fun after party featuring Liyana and our video premiere. 9.  Singing silly songs with Rob Healy, Healy. 10. Comparing shoe sizes with Sinbad. Side note: I still need to see the Full House house!!! On Mama’s Jukebox: MGMT - “Kids” x mama

On My Way

Written by The Lennon Bus

5:00 AM:  My Dad dropped me off at the airport in Milwaukee about 30 minutes ago….  I haven’t slept much, I spend last evening saying goodbye to the people that mean most to me: Mom and Dad, my brother Marek,  my best friends in the world, Rob, Dave, and Turner, and of course, Andrea.  For some reason when I say goodbye to her, I lose my cool and get emotional, she does too. I got my ticket, props for the aisle seats.  Got through security no problem, props to the “Experienced Traveler” line. Right now I am sitting at the gate, getting ready to board the flight that will start this new adventure for me.  Did I pack everything?  Let’s see…. iPod, toothbrush, toothpaste, plenty of socks, did I pack my lucky Mr. T t-shirt?  Yes I got it…. Whew! The plane is boarding now… in a few short hours, everything will be totally different, and I am excited, and with that feeling comes nervousness… I hope my hotel room has a bathroom. Ok, good talk! Until next time! Erik Niewiarowski
