jet-setting

Written by Jaime Walden

Sometimes I like to play a little game that I’ve dubbed “Psychic iPod.”  Basically, I ask the all-knowing iPod a question, such as “How will NAMM go this year?”  My 8gb nano then clairvoyantly replied “Heavy Lifting” by Ambulance Ltd.  Sir Nano was right.  This year we had quite the set-up.  Our bus was parked outside at the Arena Plaza of the Anaheim Convention Center, acting as the backdrop for our 16’ x 24’ stage.  (Along with a certain palm tree that shall remain nameless detested by both Brian and myself.)  In addition to around six live performances per day, public tours, taking photos, and shooting video, we also had our Rockband 2 and demo gear tents for show attendees to rock out a bit for themselves.  It’s always special for me to fly out for these types of events and watch everything come together.  A lot of planning goes on behind the scenes at the office that is truly rewarding to take in on-site.  When most people walk the show floor or go to a concert, the goal is to maximize the attendees’ experience.  Back at the office, every minute detail such as parking, power, catering, credentials, lodging, transportation, artist scheduling, lighting, layouts, (I could go on) all has to be coordinated in such a way to make the show flow work.  At the end of the day, the staff’s long hours churned out another successful event.  It’s always so much fun to see the guys, get a great tan, …

A Clear Message

Written by The Lennon Bus

The Slogan is a powerful message. This is known as we pop Mentos “the fresh maker” into our mouths, or kneel down to tie a pair of Nike shoes and proceed to “just do it”. But all too often the “want” out rules the “need” in such messages. I’m not going to delve into the obvious that we are a consumer nation, but some messages are free and just don’t speak to our wallets. The attendance of Obama’s inauguration day is expected to bring millions of people together, and with all eyes on Washington the message of “Imagine Peace” is a slogan free of charge to open our mind. Oh yeah, and the slogan of “Change” is a pretty good one too. To our delight Yoko Ono has shown us the writing on the wall. This is from Yoko’s MySpace page: http://www.myspace.com/officialyokoono January 9th, 2009 yoko ono Imagine peace! It’s hard to kill people when we’re imagining peace. There would be no more war. If we all imagined peace, It sounds simple, but it’s true. So, go see the billboard: IMAGINE PEACE. Just one glance and it will stay with you forever. It’ll speak to you in your dreams, and even give you a good night’s sleep Let’s make 2009 the Year of Peace! Give our children a good chance to live. I see them smiling and dancing with joy. Let’s all together IMAGINE PEACE. With love, yoko 901 6th Street., NW, Washington, District of Columbia, USA 20001-2646 On the side …

Yoko Ono’s wish trees

Written by Brian Rothschild

Great days at Stanford University with help from the Digital Media Academy.  Liyana performed and we met lots of new friends.  As fate would have it, an installation of Yoko’s wish trees coincided with our visit to the Stanford Bookstore, where visitors wrote their wishes and attached them to the tree.  The wishes from the project are all collected and placed in the base of the Imagine Peace Tower in Iceland.

I’m no longer a virgin to blogging….or am I?

Written by The Lennon Bus

So this is my first time blogging and I’m a little nervous. I feel a like a bit of an amateur here, but this feeling reminds me of my first day on the bus. On my first day I flew into Baltimore for the Vans Warped Tour and got a glimpse of Maryland in a super shuttle before we met the bus at a Holiday Inn. It was the farthest from home I had ever been. I slept on the couch cushions in the back studio that night and I remember feeling like I was going somewhere. I had no idea of the adventures to come. I have been on the bus for about 3 years now and it has been the greatest learning experience of my life. I’m glad to say I have been a part of and its changed my life forever. Plus I love the Roland V-Drums. This is me with a cactus.

Sea to Sky Highway

Written by The Lennon Bus

So I just came from the land of powder waves and took an escalator through the clouds to get there. That’s right, I just returned home to NYC where I work in the Lennon Bus office, from Whistler Mountain in B.C Canada. January on the east coast is a valid time to journey west, much like the Lennon Bus did to California for Macworld and now The NAMM Show. It’s no surprise that the gargantuan proportions of such conventions interest so many people, as computer and music technology have shaped the way we live daily and reflect on our past accomplishments. Whatever the medium, video, still pictures and sound recording, the process can truly be the best part. So here you go, this is the video I starred in on my trip. And although there is no sound track, trust me I could hear a sad melody in my head (next time I will have to remember my I pod for a much needed inspirational song). Because instead the only actual noise I had was the laughter at the bottom at the hill, as I took 45 minutes to get out of this waste deep powder, and the discussion above of the avalanche trainee group using me as a demonstration of what not to do. To all, my advice after this predicament: 1. Snowboarders and Skiers should wear less neon so I don’t get a training group confused with my friends (news flash the 90’s are over) and 2. While the …

How Do I Keep So Fit on the Road, you ask?

Written by The Lennon Bus

Well I’m glad you asked.  I was just in San Francisco, looking in my hotel mirror after an awesome day of music, video and tours at Macworld, and I thought it was time to answer your queries.

The Wheels on the Bus

Written by The Lennon Bus

I have survived my first week on the J.L.E.T.B… even though Jeff thought I would only be able to handle 2 days.  Macworld was tight, Stanford rocked, and today we gave tours to the good people at the Apple Headquarters.  Right now we are driving from Cupertino to Orange County for the start of NAMM.  I love my new bunk, it has got a window, and I can’t explain what it feels like to wake up in the morning and the first thing I see is America whizzing by.  I met some amazing people already, most notably the members of Liyana, who have inspired me in ways that I have never been inspired before, but I will talk about them and that more at a later time.  I bought new shoes, they are silver and green.  I have discovered my appreciation of coffee.  Quick props before I go….. Seamus and Tyler for showing me the ropes, D-Lar for the laughs, Jaime for the positive reinforcement emails, and Rob and Jeff for their…. well, ummm, seniority?  Most of all, BIG props to Brian and Tony for giving me their respect, this chance, and most of all mentoring me in every way possible while I am aboard this amazing journey… Ok. Good Talk. Erik

Where’s the MINNIE bar?

Written by Jaime Walden

After my turbulent six hour flight from New York, all that I could dream for was heading to the happiest place on earth.  However, upon checking in, Rob and I were both greeted by an unexpected familiar stranger…Slick Mick. At first, we were ecstatic to meet the Mr. Mouse himself: But, Mickey then took a turn for the worst during our brief respite… He startled Rob! Ordered room service! Rob and I finally had enough.  Just before Mickey could scurry out the door, we snapped a quick photo of the ninja mouse being BUSTED!!! On Mama’s Jukebox: anything but “It’s a Small World” x mama

Blog Numero Uno

Written by The Lennon Bus

ok, so I have been slacking. I’ll admit that. I was a little bird in the b-childs ear last year trying to get a blog going and now here I am playing catch up like my screen name is Heinz 57. To be perfectly honest I was just nervous. They say once you get the first one out there it just gets easier and easier, but then again, I don’t know who “they” are. I assume “they” are probably Jeff, his glass is always half full (at least that’s what they say). Anyways, last year was a doozie to say the least. It was one of the most eventful years of my life. I graduated from college, I got a job on the lennon bus, my sister had a baby, my dad almost died (but then he decided not to), my other sister was gonna get married (but then she decided not to), my other sister decided to be diagnosed with celiac whereas I opted for some diabetes, my mom kept it real and Obama got in office (Thank You Jesus) all the while my beautiful lady friend maintained some patience (Thank You Jesus). Reflecting on all of those silly shenanigans and forging right into the future I find myself here today in 2009. Today is a great day seeing that tomorrow is always the busiest. People are always planning things for tomorrow so I try to avoid that. Early bird gets the worm and the apple doesn’t fall to far …
