The Ballad of John and Yoko

Written by Seamus Harte | Leave a Comment

On March 20th, 1969 John Lennon and Yoko Ono were officially married. Being the global icons they were and still are, they knew their wedding would garner quite a bit of press. The two decided to utilize their wedding and honeymoon to kick off a global campaign for peace. The Lennon’s viewed this opportunity as their chance to promote peace and protest wars in a non-violent highly publicized fashion. Their efforts resulted in two “Bed-Ins”, one in Amsterdam on March 25, and one in Montreal May 26. Each “Bed-in” was a week long in which they spent their time in bed with open doors for the press from 9am to 9pm. The press jumped on the opportunity in hopes of finding the two in scandalous activity, but instead they sat like angels on white sheets with peace signs in the air.

John and Yoko Giving Peace a Chance

During the Montreal Bed-in, John, Yoko and friends recorded the now famous “Give Peace a Chance”. It quickly became the anthem for peaceful protesters around the world as controversy continued to grow around the Vietnam War.

The Bed-In’s and trials and tribulations John and Yoko had to go through just to get married in March of ‘69 were lyrically documented in The Beatles “The Ballad of John and Yoko”

Happy Birthday Yoko

Written by Seamus Harte | Leave a Comment

We hear it’s your birthday. It’s not our birthday too, but we would still like you to dance, take a ch-ch-ch-chance.

Yoko Ono is celebrating her 77th birthday today. For over seven decades now she has been a pioneering voice of the arts. Without her love, support, and vision the Lennon Bus would not be possible. We would like thank her for taking a ch-ch-ch-chance with us 14 years ago when we kicked off the first Lennon Bus tour.

Happy Birthday Yoko. Thank you for all you have done, all you are doing, and all you will do in the name of art, inspiration, and creativity.

We Love You!

Who is John Lennon?

Written by Seamus Harte | Leave a Comment

Lennon may no longer be with us but his music is something that will never die. Like a sparklers glow passed from hand to hand on the 4th of July, Lennon’s music continues to put dazzles in the eyes of ears hearing it for the first time. 50 years ago Lennon himself could of never imagined the means available for music to spread it’s wings in the 21st century. Between tweets and email inboxes, from Facebook posts to iPod playlists, mixed CD’s and iTune’s Genius’, the means to share music with family, friends, and fans has become multifaceted.

The Lennon Bus is one of those facets. We are not just dedicated to spreading the legacy of John Lennon through music and creation to students across the nation, but also to spreading that spark. That moment of light that burns so bright and true. The moment imagination first kisses reality moving from the shadows of your mind to the light of your fingers. The moment music is made.

Lennon’s talents allowed him to make moments into music, music into bands, bands into Beatles, Beatles into culture, culture into movements, and movements back into moments, moments that make change.

The Lennon Bus realizes though that many youngsters that come on board the bus do not know who John is. We relish in the opportunity to share the sparkle, to pass the light, and to dazzle the eye. In an effort to address this issue with the youth we look forward to sharing these forthcoming articles with you in hopes of learning more of who John was and who he could be for you and me.

Fall into Love with Mobile Roadie

Written by Seamus Harte | Leave a Comment

The Lennon Bus has been in and out of Las Vegas for various conventions and student projects but we still haven’t had the opportunity to catch a show. And if there was a show of shows for the Lennon Bus crew to catch of course it would have to be Love, the Cirque du Soleil musical spectacle that has received raving reviews near and far. While we intend to catch the show sooner than later, Mobile Roadie has released an app to allow us to dive into the show without even stepping a foot into Sin City. Fall into Love with the latest app from Mobile Roadie, Love. And of course if you haven’t downloaded our app yet you better get on it to stay in touch with the Lennon Bus while your on the move. Download the Lennon Bus App here.

Learning to Edit on the Fly with Avid Media Composer 5

Written by Seamus Harte | Leave a Comment

In less than 10 days my bottom is going to be glued to a chair and my eyeballs will be locked on a computer screen. These details alone don’t do much differentiation between most of my days, but this detail does, the Lennon Bus crew will be in Burbank training on Avid’s Media Composer 5. When you’re working with the Lennon Bus, one of the biggest perks is the training provided by our many sponsors. It won’t be the first time we’ve trained with Avid and it certainly won’t be the last. As we prepare for our week of knowledge farming I wanted to share with you some new features I’m excited to learn.

One of the new features added since we last trained on Media Composer is the Smart Tool. The Smart Tool allows the user to have an active cursor in the timeline. In previous editions you had to select one tool and once you were done using it you had to manually select the next tool. Now the cursor will contextual change itself to make your editing workflow faster than ever.

Take It To 11

Written by Seamus Harte | Leave a Comment

We are currently driving from North Hollywood to Anaheim for the NAMM Show . It’s a short drive relative to what the year has in store but it’s enough to shake the dust off the butterflies in our bellies and get us ready to Take It To 11.

On the books NAMM is a trade-show that allows manufactures, vendors, buyers, musicians, and fans to come together to see what the New Year has brought in terms of Music Technology. But let us remember what those tools are used for. Some have knobs. Some have switches. Some have levers. Others are faders. Some are touch screen. Some have cables. Some are wireless. Some are loud. And others silent. There will be many different. tools, tech, and toys we will immerse ourselves in for the few days, but they all serve one goal - capturing dreams. Maybe you prefer to let your ideas come out with just an acoustic guitar or maybe a bumping sub in a club, either way you will find it this week at NAMM. And maybe you won’t be able to make it to NAMM this week but that doesn’t mean you can’t join us in Taking It To 11.

So this year whether you are in a band or a solo act, a beginner or a veteran, classically trained or garage rocked, whatever it is you do that makes you you take it one step further this year.

Take It To 11.

The Definition of Inventory

Written by Seamus Harte | Leave a Comment

According to Merriam-Webster the definition of Inventory is:

1. an itemized list of current assets: as (1) : a catalog of the property of an individual or estate (2) : a list of goods on hand

The beginning of every Lennon Bus tour begins with this itemizing of assets, catalogs of property, and lists of goods. It is important we have all of our eggs in a basket and ducks in a row before we go roaring across the country in a fury of media production. This year we have added quite a few extra assets to our itemized lists I’d like to point out.

The Mbox Pro

The Lennon Bus has been using Pro Tools systems to produce music with students and artist for quite some time now. We are certainly proud of the amazing Pro Tools HD systems we have within in the bus but now you can experience the same world-class results in our tents with the Pro Tools Mbox Pro. The Mbox Pro has made a change that you can see, feel, and most importantly hear and all brought to you by the same engineering team responsible for the high-end Pro Tools HD systems we keep rockin’ in the inside of the bus. I’m excited to explore the power of the new Mbox Pro’s and I’m even more excited they will be in our tents available for visitors to experiment with.

MC Color

No it’s not the name of the latest rapper signed to Crayola Records, but it is a tool that’ll help you get your color grading done faster than a kindergarten teacher on her fourth cup of coffee. It integrates with all the major color grading programs and it provides high-resolution trackballs, trackwheels, touch-sensitive encoders, and a ton of hot keys that you can program to your preference. The MC Color is one cool cat we’re excited to have on board.

In previous jobs inventory was not something to look forward to but with the Lennon Bus and sponsors like Avid, Apple, and Gibson, inventory has really become an opportunity to itemize our assets, catalog our property, and make a list of all our goods we’ll get to share with students across the nation.

Be sure to keep an eye on our schedule as we get ready to kick off our 2011 tour at NAMM.

The Hans Juxtaposition

Written by Seamus Harte | Leave a Comment

Juxtaposition

- noun

1. an act or instance of placing close together or side by side; especially for contrast or comparison.

Like a Jedi mind trick from Mr. Miyagi himself, our efforts to throw Hans in front of the camera with no time to think may have seemed trivial and counterproductive to him at the time. But Mr. Miyagi know better Hans-san. (Read in Mr. Miyagi accent) After a couple months on the road and a couple weeks at Camp Tyler Hans has learned the Force and is ready to take on 2011. To further our point in a grand visual display we have juxtaposed Hans videos for you. Please enjoy as you watch from the first time we threw him in front of the camera and watched him grow on the road, to his latest video that Hans produced and directed after gettin’ his noggin’ filled with knowledge by T-Win himself. Enjoy.

*Note: Yes, I know I mixed references from Star Wars and The Karate Kid, but you have to admit the idea of a Mr. Mi-Yoda is pretty awesome. Nah, super awesome.

Lennon Bus 70th T-Shirt

Written by Seamus Harte | Leave a Comment

In the past year the Lennon Bus has taken the time at many of our stops to ask artist to produce something on board the bus to honor John on his 70th Birthday. Our Creative Coordinator, Tyler Winick, developed a graphic intro for these video pieces and it was awesome. So awesome that it became a T-Shirt. A T-Shirt that you can now buy with proceeds going to the Lennon Bus. Check out the Livenation store here where you can buy a shirt and check out some of the videos we created to honor John here.
