The John Lennon Educational Tour Bus Presented by OWC Rolls Into Austin with Performances by RZA, Hanson, Pussy Riot, & More

NEW YORK—(March 9, 2018) —The John Lennon Educational Tour Bus (the Lennon Bus) presented by OWC, the premier non-profit 501(c)(3) state-of-the-art mobile production facility that provides hands-on experiences for students of all ages, returns to Austin, Texas, for a two-day stop filled with activities, concerts and a panel discussion for festival goers on March 14 and 15 at The Belmont with all attendees eligible to win one of OWC’s award winning storage solutions

“This is a great time of year to celebrate music in Austin, and showcase the work of the Lennon Bus to all those who join us,” said Brian Rothschild, Co-Founder and Executive Director of the Lennon Bus. “The support of musicians and artists like Hanson and RZA is crucial for our mission to provide all children with access to high quality music, art and SEL (social and emotional learning) programs.”

On Wednesday March 14, The John Lennon Educational Tour Bus will present Emo Nite’s day party at The Belmont (305 W. 6th St.) in Austin from 12:30pm until 3:30pm. The event will be open to the public and access is for those ages 21 and older. Later that evening, the official Lennon Bus SXSW showcase will feature performances by RZA of Wu-Tang Clan ft. Stone Mecca, Pussy Riot, KOLARS, Tuomo & Marcus, Arlie and M. Rivers. The showcase will also take place at The Belmont from 7:00pm until 2:00am.

On Thursday March 15, The John Lennon Educational Tour Bus and The Texas Association of School Administrators join forces with ed-tech start-up, Nearpod to co-host a free (with RSVP) event, “Come Together for Education” from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. at The Belmont. Come Together for Education will kick off with a welcome by Rothschild and will be followed by a performance from Possessed by Paul James.

“Come Together for Education” will give attendees a sneak peak at the new Lennon Bus curriculum which uses John and Yoko’s life and music to engage K-12 students in conversations and activities around the topics of peace, empathy, activism, social justice and more.  In addition, a panel discussion titled, Imagine: Fostering Sustained Social and Emotional Development Through Multimedia, Music and the Arts, with educators from across the state will be moderated by Nearpod’s VP of Content Strategy, Jennie Kristofferson

Pop-rock trio Hanson will close out the event with an afternoon performance.

The John Lennon Educational Tour Bus presented by Other World Computing (OWC) is a non-profit state-of-the-art mobile Pro Audio and HD video recording facility that provides hands-on experiences for students of all ages. In its 21st year of touring, the Lennon Bus features the latest audio and video technology, gear and products. The concept began as an offshoot of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest, dedicated to providing opportunities for both professional and amateur songwriters around the world; proceeds from which help support the Lennon Bus. The Lennon Bus travels across the U.S. and Canada year-round, providing free tours and workshops at schools, retailers, festivals, on tours with headlining artists, and at major industry conferences. Lennon Bus Europe began providing these same opportunities to the young people of Europe when it launched in Liverpool, UK in May 2013.

The John Lennon Educational Tour Bus has been at the forefront of this new media explosion, having produced daily video projects with students since January of 2001. The Lennon Bus puts state-of-the-art digital video equipment into the hands of workshop participants and teaches the entire digital workflow from storyboarding to web publication and DVD burning. Students leave the experience having shot, chopped, scored, and (most importantly) finished an entire digital video production. Using the latest cameras and professional hardware/software solutions including Avid Media Composer and Pro Tools, participants are exposed to the exciting world of digital videography and learn hot techniques of the trade.
