YOKO ONO LENNON, PRINCE ROYCE AND THE JOHN LENNON EDUCATIONAL TOUR BUS “COME TOGETHER” TO SUPPORT NYC SCHOOLS

Presented by Canon U.S.A., Inc. the month-long tour is dedicated to peace, love and creativity with workshops, live events and human peace signs in celebration of John Lennon’s birthday

NEW YORK, N.Y. (SEPTEMBER 15, 2016) – Yoko Ono Lennon has announced the return to NYC of The John Lennon Educational Tour Bus (Lennon Bus), the premiere, non-profit 501(c)(3) mobile production studio, for a month-long tour from September 15 – October 19.

Entitled Come Together: NYC, this year’s residency takes the state-of-the-art Lennon Bus studios to schools and public events across the city where students, visitors and guest mentors, including Latin super-star, singer-songwriter, Prince Royce, will create original music, videos, poetry and art around the “Come Together” theme. The initiative has been produced in association with Canon U.S.A., Inc., Juniper Networks, the NYC Council, the Mayor’s Office, the Department of Cultural Affairs, the NY State Assembly, Securematics, Other World Computing (OWC), Museum of Moving Image and Kaufman Astoria Studios.

“This project is at the root of John’s wishes for people everywhere to embrace their creativity and musical expression. He would be so proud and I am too!” said Yoko Ono Lennon who will premiere the Come Together: NYC projects at the conclusion of the tour at the Museum of Moving Image on October 19th. The public is invited to attend the screening of the original student work, and take a tour of the Lennon Bus studios.

Launching on September 15th from the steps of New York City Hall, the Lennon Bus’ NYC residency kicks off with announcements about the many school stops and events planned with the support of Prince Royce, Bob Gruen, Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito, Education Chair, Daniel Dromm, and Council Members Corey Johnson, Karen Koslowitz, Stephen Levin, Rory Lancman, Julissa Ferreras, Elizabeth Crowley, Mark Levine, and Paul Vallone.

“We are excited to welcome the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus back to New York. Their work inspires learning and reminds us of the important role music plays in the education of our students. John Lennon was embraced as a true New Yorker and this initiative is a great way to ensure his extraordinary legacy lives on today,” said Mayor Bill de Blasio.

On September 16th, the Lennon Bus will join Prince Royce as he goes back to his high school, the Bronx Academy of Letters High School, to create an original song and music video with current members of the student body.  As part of the production, the whole school will participate in a giant human peace sign along with school leaders and elected officials including New York City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito.

On October 8th in celebration of John Lennon’s 76th birthday weekend, the Lennon Bus will host a “Come Together” family block party in Jackson Heights with celebrity guests, live musical performances, DJ and production workshops for kids, tours of the Lennon Bus and the Canon U.S.A. photo booth.

“We couldn’t be more honored to be a part of a program that commits itself to enriching creative minds, especially those of our future generation,” said Yuichi Ishizuka, President and COO, Canon U.S.A., Inc. “At Canon, we pride ourselves on being committed to education and strive to develop and bring to market products that can have a direct impact on creative individuals. We look forward to enhancing the user experiences during the Lennon Bus’ visit to the New York communities.”

Students onboard the Lennon Bus will receive an exclusive look into the latest in music products, audio, video and broadcast technologies, Canon cameras and lenses, and career paths, and hear first hand from the engineers who live and work on board the multi-million dollar networked facility that travels 10 months a year throughout the U.S. Participants will spend a full day developing an original project, creating the music, video, and images needed to take their ideas from concept to delivery.
