New York City, NY (July 30, 2013) – The John Lennon Songwriting Contest (JLSC), an international songwriting contest open to both amateur and professional songwriters, announces Jonas Friddle & The Majority as the Song of the Year Winner for their original track “Belle de Louisville”. The 2013 Song of the Year prize package currently includes $20,000 cash, an Avid prize pack, a Mackie Mixer and pair of Mackie Studio Monitors, a Solid State Logic Alpha Channel, and $1000 scholarship to the Digital Media Academy.
The Chicago-based 7-piece band originally formed at The Old Town School of Folk Music, where the band members currently teach and inspire budding musicians of all ages. Self-described as orchestral-folk music, the talented multi-instrumentalist group includes a string section, horns, organ, banjo and drums with songs deeply rooted in the string band and blues traditions of American Roots music.
In early 2012, Jonas Friddle & The Majority entered their original song in Session I and was selected as the Grand Prize Winner in the Folk category. Their prize package included $6500 in project studio equipment from Avid, Roland and Boss, Audio-Technica, Epiphone, JamHub, Propellerhead, a $500 gift certificate for MusiciansFriend.com, Neutrik special edition John Lennon Education Tour Bus connectors, and a 1-year subscription to Guitar Player, Bass Player, Keyboard or Electronic Musician Magazine.
In April 2013, the band continued their success winning one of the twelve coveted Lennon Awards, an online battle where winners are determined by fan voting. The winning songs, one from each category are sent to the Executive Panel of Judges comprised of noted industry heavyweights: Grammy winning artist Sean Paul, R’n’B star Jessica Jarrell, Grammy winning artist and Black Eyed Peas member, Fergie, Australian-duo The Veronicas, international pop star Natasha Bedingfield, Grammy award winning singer/songwriter Jesse Harris, Grateful Dead founding member Bob Weir and hit duo The Bacon Brothers. After careful review, the Executive Panel selected Jonas Friddle & The Majority as the 2012 Song of the Year Winner!

In honor of John Lennon’s 80th birthday, the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus and the John Lennon Songwriting Contest (JLSC) have announced a partnership with Gibson Gives – the iconic American instrument brand’s charitable arm – to support musicianship, music education and songwriting for people of all ages.
The increasing accessibility of digital technology has led to an amazing expansion of opportunity in the art of digital storytelling. The John Lennon Educational Tour Bus has been at the forefront of this new media explosion, having produced daily video projects with students since January of 2001. The Lennon Bus puts state-of-the-art digital video equipment into the hands of workshop participants and teaches the entire digital workflow from storyboarding to web publication and DVD burning. Students leave the experience having shot, chopped, scored, and (most importantly) finished an entire digital video production. Using the latest cameras and professional hardware/software solutions including Avid Media Composer and Pro Tools, participants are exposed to the exciting world of digital videography and learn hot techniques of the trade. The accessibility of professional-quality technology is making it possible for millions of new voices to be heard and the John Lennon Bus is putting these tools into the hands of tomorrow's great digital producers.
