Other places The John Lennon Songwriting Contest
It’s finally here.
Saturday night, the city’s most talented high-school rockers will converge upon the Cain’s Ballroom for the fifth annual Satellite Battle of the Bands.
This year’s event promises to be bigger and better than ever, with bands from all different genres and high schools ready to lead a revolution inside this storied dance hall.
Tickets are $3 in advance, available now at the Cain’s Ballroom, 423 N. Main St., or $5 at the door of the ballroom. We suggest getting your tickets now, as this event has sold out every single year.
The bands rocking it out for a slew of cash and prizes are: Keyless Entry from Holland Hall; Abeo Cygnus from Jenks and Bixby high schools; The Fiascos from Memorial High School; Lupercus from Booker T. Washington High School; Feedback from Riverfield Country Day School; and the winners of our online rockoff, Restless Ribbon from Edison Preparatory School.
Before the show, you can get in on the action by coming out and visiting the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus, which will be hosting tours all day Friday at Saied Music Co., 3259 S. Yale Ave.
This state-of-the-art mobile recording and video studio tours the country hosting music enrichment and education events. Three staffers live on the bus full time, and there’s still room for instruments, two recording studios, mixing boards — you have to see it to believe it.
The grand prize winner of the battle wins a day aboard the bus recording a CD and cutting a music video, as well as a $1,500 gift card to Saied. The $500 Bart Betow Memorial People’s Choice Award will go to a band voted on by the audience.
It’s the year’s second-biggest event for Tulsa teens, because hey, let’s face it — prom is probably a bigger deal.
But we bet this night will be more fun.
Let the revolution begin!
